Another Look, a book club at Stanford University cofounded by award-winning author and Professor Emeritus Tobias Wolff, gathers a panel of Stanford humanities faculty members and alumni for a discussion of Dino Buzzati's The Singularity.
The panel features Wolff; Robert Pogue Harrison, Rosina Pierotti Professor of Italian Literature, Emeritus; Laura Wittman, Associate Professor of French and Italian; and Bryan Cheong, a machine learning scientist trained in statistics and materials engineering at Stanford.
The Singularity, originally published in 1960, probed philosophical questions surrounding artificial intelligence some 60 years before the technology's pervasive appearance in popular culture, art, and private enterprise today. The Singularity was republished last year by NYRB Classics in a new translation by Anne Milano Appel.
This event can be attended in-person or via Zoom. Registration is encouraged for both.
