Walk almost any neighborhood in New York City and the past inevitably collides with the future, since the city is always evolving. Today, New York City’s legislation provides protected status to 158 historic districts, 1,464 individual landmarks, 123 interior landmarks and even 12 scenic landmarks. The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Cultural Center invites you to join the contributors to Beyond Architecture: The NEW New York for a discussion of the impact, legacy and status of historic preservation in New York City.

Edited by Dr. Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel and commemorating the 60th anniversary of the New York City Landmarks Law, Beyond Architecture brings together some of the preeminent thinkers on NYC history, urban planning, and architecture to consider “the future of the past”.

Panel: Adam Gopnik, Paul Goldberger, Justin Davidson, Vishaan Chakrabarti, and Lisa Switkin.
Moderated by Rea Hederman, Publisher, The New York Review of Books.
Sponsored by Dr. Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, Editor, and The New York Review of Books.
