The Society of Authors has announced the 2024 shortlists for its eight translation prizes recognizing outstanding translations from works in Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Swedish. We are thrilled to share that included among the 41 shortlisted works are three NYRB titles—
- For the John Florio Prize: Jenny McPhee's translation from the Italian of Lies and Sorcery by Elsa Morante (NYRB Classics);
- For the Premio Valle Inclán: Chris Andrews, Edith Grossman and Alastair Reid's translation from the Spanish of Maqroll's Prayer and Other Poems by Álvaro Mutis (NYRB Poets);
- For the Scott Moncrieff Prize: Joyce Zonana's translation from the French of The Child and the River by Henri Bosco (NYRB Classics).
The eight prizes will be awarded at the 2024 Translation Prizes ceremony, held on February 12, 2025.
